Bringing your Healing Drum into the World
Building a drum is a spiritual experience. Native drums give honor to both ourselves, Great Spirit, and Mother Earth.
Drumming can carry into many aspects of our lives. Kaye shares with us her recent gardening experience. “Since planting time is here we worked hard to create a big gardening area, a protected space for our vegetables to grow. My honey decided this year that we would honor the elements that are involved in our growth. So we put up a tiki lamp to honor fire, a bird bath for water, the earth was tilled to honor the earth element, and then we honored the element of air through Tibetan bells. I sang native songs and played my drum, calling in the ancestors to help in the garden. Our next step turned playful, as we added kitty and frog statues to honor the animals.”
Frogs are amazing totems since they can live in the three levels of the earth: As tadpoles they live in the water, growing to transcend onto the earth, and even live in the trees.
“We also added crystals and petrified wood into the garden, to bring honor to the rock people.”
Drumming is all about intention. We choose where our energy and our mind flows. Drumming helps set the tone, and through all aspects of our being we can use drumming to set the tone for our lives and our world.
