Did someone say “party”? May 30, mark it in your calendar!
It’s time, don’t you think? Here’s the scoop: Estee has the frame for a big powwow or group drum, and when we purchased the hides for the last Healing Drum Retreat drum making class we bought extra hides. Out of the buffalo half hides we cut two sections for this big two sided drum as well as the nine-sided that Estee built (with the help of many friends) in March.
Many times the making of a ceremonial drum involves a small circle of helpers. For this event we want to open things up, bring in new people, raise the enthusiasm, and lift our spirits to a new level. Therefore a party is in order. We will build the drum, and for those interested in making their own smaller yet amazing drum we will include those drums, too.
We will sing, share stories, offer insights, eat the good foods offered by the EZ Come EZ Go Restaurant where our event is located, and have an overall wonderful time.
Directions: from I-5 take exit 60. If you are traveling from Portland take a left, if from Seattle or Chehalis, turn right. Follow this road into Winlock, watch your speed please as you drive through the curves. Pass the IGA, and turn right at the flashing light. The restaurant is next to the Post Office. We will be in the room next door, and you will see lots of drum making supplies.
We’ll meet at 1pm, and expect to complete around 4pm. We certainly encourage everyone to enjoy the good foods that are offered at the restaurant in gratitude for this great meeting space! We’ll be accepting donations for the Healing Drum scholarship fund as well.
Oh yes, let’s not forget: if you are making a drum at the Healing Drum Retreat, June 19th, 2009, we will have some of the hides available for an early peak. If you see a special hide you would like we will take reservations as well. Deposits will be required to hold a hide for you. We have many interesting and intriguing hides in horse and buffalo.
See you all at the party!! RSVP via email, our comment form, or through the new calendar.
