Finding Wellness in Nutrition and a Healthy Diet
Unity Works is a multi-cultural education and awareness event offered several times each year at Brighton Creek Conference Center. Kaye Tahwakeena, co-organizer of the Healing Drum Retreat is also a founder and board member for Unity Works.
This month’s guest speaker for Unity Works was Dr. Emi Hosoda, a nutrition-focused physician in Enumclaw, Washington. Dr. Emi shared with the group a wealth of information on topics such as the sugars and insulin, sweeteners, fats, gluten, and exercise, offering many facts that unravel both the weight loss and healthy diet puzzles.

This weekend event included the insightful cooking segment prepared by Sharon Kernan, who lead us through a three dish cooking demonstration of healthy, low cost foods. “How to cook delicious foods for 50 cents per serving”. Later that evening we were given a chance to sample these wonderful foods, with an opportunity to take home samples to share with our families.
Dr. Emi brings together her medical training and research in diet and nutrition that she has applied to her own life. She lead us through the maze of diet concepts and food fallacies, and offered many alternatives that nourish and promote better health.
“This weekend was very informative and helpful for me. I learned about my medications that I should know about, and gave me insights on how I can take better care of my health”.
L.J.U., Eastern Washington
“Thank you Dr. Emi, for all the facts! The connectivity between all the segments you taught showed me areas for me to explore in my own health and nutrition regime.”
Estee Taschereau, Healing Drum Retreat
