From Hide to Drum – Finding the Right Fit part II
We began our drum hide cutting party with the horse hides. They were more flexible than the buffalo, but had a tremendous amount of pull in them. Was this a display of the horse spirit, or just the fact that these hides were rolled? Having known many horses in my lifetime, I know they can be very loving but also very strong willed.

Horse hide rounds
With the tension held within the hide we had a difficult time lying it flat. Water bottles were used to weigh down the less-agressive sections of hide. We did manage to get the horse rounds cut quickly, with 15 altogether. Our next task was planning the layout of the buffalo.
