You can’t hide a buffalo, can you?
Okay, you caught me smack dab in the middle of a really bad pun. It’s true, you just can’t hide a buffalo, but you can use a buffalo hide in drum making. In fact, we had four buffalo half hides to work with.
We started with the largest drum, a 30″ ceremonial drum. We needed rounds with enough overlap, and in very little time we knew exactly the sections we would use. The coloring in these two rounds have a yin-yang appearance, something we didn’t aim for but appreciated nonetheless. Our new ceremonial drum should be finished before the June 2009 Healing Drum Retreat, and we will include a discussion of yin-yang energy and healing of the planet.
We’re planning a “Ceremonial Drum Building Party”, a day for play, laughter, singing, and of course drumming with our own drums as we build this large two-sided drum. Once we have our time and location secured we’ll post an announcement.
This joyful party will be by donation, with the proceeds split between the Healing Drum Retreat Scholarship and Unity Works, providing education and guidance to youths.
