Healing Drum March 2009 – Campfire!! Part 6 of 10
At the last Healing Drum Retreat, September 2008, we gathered on Saturday evening for a campfire. The festivities began with a round of smudging, with blessings flowing not just for the people attending, but also their drums.
As we completed our smudging activities the feel of the evening shifted. We shared stories, sang songs, and shared in the collective voice of spirit as the heartbeat of the earth resonated from heart, to hand, and finally to drum.
This playful event was fully welcomed after a long day of workshops. Laughter rose as quickly as smoke as we rolled through a few rounds of “build a story”, with each person contributing a line or two in a silly yet amazingly insightful made-up tale. Somehow every storytelling session we have had in the past always includes the wisdom of the bear.
The mood of the evening was joyful and relaxing, and as we can see in this picture our festive event attracted more than just people. Happiness is a magnetic energy, drawing to it the spirits of the forest and the earth elements.
There was very little smoke rising from the fire, and the circular bubbles above our group are the curious energy orbs that came to join us as we laughed and sang into the night.
Even the fire danced with approval. Later, as the coals died back, we returned to the dining hall for one last cup of tea before a welcomed slumber.
